Remarks

From Matthies's book: "An oak standing on Greenfield Hill above the Pequot Swamp witnessed the battle there. It sheltered the red men and watched the coming of the white men. In 1778 a band of Redcoats, encamped under the oak, made their plans to destroy the property of the village and in 1790 the ministers of the Established Religion in Connecticut met with Dr. Timothy Dwight near this tree when it listened to many learned addresses. It now stands as a guardian by the gateway of Restmore."
