From Matthies's book: "These six trees can never be destroyed by man according to the provisions of the deeds which have been given to each owner of the property, since the first owner, Ebenezer Nichols, planted the trees ninety years ago. The property is now owned by O. B. Lyons and the trees are some of the finest specimens of spruce to be found in the state."
