Remarks

From Matthies's book: "The Sentinel Oak stood on the brow of Sentinel Hill, where the sentinels were stationed at the time of Tryon's invasion of Connecticut during the Revolution. From this spot can be seen much of Long Island Sound and the watchers could easily see and give the alarm if British ships entered the mouth of the Housatonic River."
