Remarks

From Matthies's book: "This sycamore has a diameter of six feet and a circumference of 20 feet at its base, with a spread of branches one hundred feet and a height of one hundred feet. It branches at twenty feet from the ground. In 1815 a "Peace Feast" to celebrate the end of the War of 1812 was held in Fairfield and an ox was barbecued under this tree. The sycamore is still standing in a flourishing condition."
